Taught Social Studies for grades 3-8 for 10 years and GED preparation in juvenile (ages 15-19) corrections for 5 years. Tutoring was supplemental to all those years. I like tutoring because it is more effective than classroom teaching primarily because it is more conducive to developing a relationship which is almost the single most important ingredient in a student's successful learning. Served in the Peace Corps in Ghana for 2 years. Trained community counselors in Ghana for 3 more years. Helped students improve study skills for 6 years to better prepare them for good high schools and college. I have 17 years of mental health counseling experience with the focus on ADD/ADHD and substance abuse populations.
